Joan Rivers Being Woken From Medically Induced Coma; Daughter Melissa To Sue Clinic?

Comedienne Joan Rivers is slowly being woken from the medically induced coma she was placed in after suffering cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine surgical procedure on her vocal cords last week, according to The New York Daily News.

The process of taking the 81-year-old out of the coma could take until Tuesday, according to ET Canada.

Doctors will reportedly need to assess neurological damage that the "Fashion Police" host may have suffered.

"There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair," an insider told the Daily News.

Joan Rivers' daughter Melissa Rivers is reportedly considering suing the clinic where her mother stopped breathing during throat surgery, according to the insider.

"Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame. The night before, she was performing and now she is on life support. An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient. Very ill-advised," stated a source close to the family.

Since news surfaced that Joan Rivers was in serious condition, fans and celebrities have expressed well wishes via Twitter, according to E! News.

"Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed," Melissa Rivers said in a statement on Sunday.

"Fashion Police" co-stars George Kotsiopoulos, Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic have been supportive as well, according to the entertainment website.

"Social media has really just been very supportive and I think that is important right now if we collectively we all just pray for Joan to be well and back and laughing with us very soon. Melissa and Cooper need you. We all need you. The world needs you," Kotsiopoulos told E! News.
