The series started promisingly enough, with many getting on board early on for this TV series on Showtime about CIA officer Carrie Mathsion, who suffers from bipolar disorder and a United States Marine Corps soldier who Mathison believes has become an enemy of the United States of America. The series is based on an Israeli TV show called "Prisoners of War" created by Gideon Raff, and it was adapted for American TV by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa for Showtime

But as the season progressed, the show did not become better and better as many expected, and just last season it was panned by critics and snubbed at the Emmy Awards. But the Homeland season 4 trailer shows promise for this struggling series.

What can we learn from the newly released Homeland season 4 trailer? A lot of details, it turns out. So much so that the trailer reveals a couple of spoilers for its loyal fans. It shows Carrie (played by Claire Danes) has indeed returned to the Middle East, and is in charge of a secret operation in Pakistan. The trailer also reveals a rekindling of Carrie's working relationship with Saul, as she receives a call from him. Other things we learn from the Homeland season 4 trailer include Carrie trying hard to come to a decision whether she can raise the child she gave birth to, the one who is fathered by Brody. Still, there are more government conspiracies to unravel and a drone operation gone horribly wrong.

The Homeland season 4 cast is mostly intact. Mandy Patinkin as Saul is coming back, as well as Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn, Tracy Letts as Andrew Lockhart, Nazanin Boniadi as Fara Sherazi, and Laila Robins as Martha Boyd. New members to join the cast includes Mad Men's Mark Moses, Indian actress Nimrat Kaur, and Art Malik.

Homeland season 4 will have a two hour special premiere on Showtime this October 5, Sunday.
