New updates for TMNT 2014 sequel, Teenage Mutant Turtles 2 have been revealed.

According to the reports from the Variety, the TMNT sequel is set to be shown on June 3, 2016 after the success of the first film in its global debut, earning $93.7 million and $65 million domestically and holding its own against Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Paramount’s president of domestic marketing and distribution Megan Colligan commented the success of the film.

“ ‘Guardians’ is a great movie and it’s always tough to come right behind a great movie. Ultimately we played more like a family film and they played a notch older…The great thing about summer is the marketplace is able to expand to allow for these two films.”

Meanwhile, four iconic TMNT characters are rumored to be added in the sequel.

According to reports from movie website Screen Rant, these characters are the hockey mask wearing vigilante Casey Jones, the alien overlord Krang, and Shredder’s mutant henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady.

TMNT director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Andrew Form teased fans about the new characters in the sequel, name-dropping descriptions of Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady during last month’s San Diego Comic-Con 2014.

As for Krang, Screen Rant conducted an interview with Leibesman and producers Form and Bradley Fuller regarding the alien overlord’s appearance.

Screen Rant: I was going to save this next question for later, but it seems like we’re building off of it anyway. I mean I’m familiar with the old comics. I wanted to ask you guys, going forward, we saw a lot of Easter eggs from the comics – particularly like TCRI and things like that. I know where the TCRI story leads in the comics [spoiler: aliens]. Would you guys ever go so big and so sci-fi?

Jonathan Liebesman: Dimension X?

Screen Rant: Yeah.

Jonathan Liebesman: F*ck yes.

Brad Fuller: I think what we need to do is we need to see how the movie does.

Jonathan Liebesman: I’m assuming your question comes from…

Jonathan Liebesman: I would love to. I mean it’s not up to me. It’s up to all of us to decide.

Brad Fuller: But we’ve talked about those worlds already.

Andrew Form: There are scripts that have been written for this movie that integrated those worlds into it already…

Jonathan Liebesman: They were just too…it made the movie a bit too unfocused for this particular story.

It was reported that the TMNT sequel will likely explore the origins of the mutagen TCRI, and the aliens responsible for its development, namely the Kraang/Ultroms, and hinted a possible setting in their home world, Dimension X.
