The Inherent Vice movie is set to hit theaters in December this year, with its exclusive world premiere set to be held at this weekend's New York Film Festival. And before all this we have a first official look at the trailer which Warner Brothers has just released.

The Inherent Vice movie is based on the book by American novelist Thomas Pynchon, who is regarded as a recluse who has jealously guarded his privacy over the years. The novel, which bears the same name, is set in the 1970s and follows a main character called Doc Sportello (in the movie, he is played by Joaquin Phoenix ). Sportello is a drug addled private investigator who is investigating a case involving his ex girlfriend. The ex girlfriend, played by Katherine Waterston suspects that the ex wife of her filthy rich boyfriend is plotting to have him thrown into a mental institution. The plot, as in all of Thomas Pynchon's novels is thick and complicated, and before long we are introduced to a whole of characters and plot lines.

The Inherent Vice movie trailer looks great and promises to be an entertaining ride, with lead actor Joaquin Phoenix delivering the goods usual. Aside from this excellent trailer, the movie also has its first poster and an official Facebook page for all the juicy details of the movie.

Paul Thomas Anderson is pulling off all the stops for this film. The Inherent Vice movie cast is an ensemble one that includes Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Martin Short, Jena Malone and Benicio Del Toro.
