Space explorers in Hawaii began their exploration of life on Mars right here in earth!

Tech News World reported that the third simulated exploration to Mars was conducted by NASA at Hawaii's Mauna Loa.

Space explorers in Hawaii were composed of Hawai'i Space Exploration Analog and Simulation 3 mission six man team. The team is on an 8-month study, investigating the factors affecting the survival stamina of astronauts in Mars in a span of a certain period of time.

University of Hawai'i at Mānoa supports the mission of Space explorers in Hawaii, according to Tech News World.

Rachel Kraft, a NASA rep, said in an interview with Tech News World:

"NASA has funded one research investigation on team function and performance on long-duration exploration missions that uses the HI-SEAS space analog facility during its current mission in Hawaii."

In an interview with Tech News World, a physics professor from the University of New Hampshire, Nathan Schwadron, explained how the space explorers conducted their space studies in Mars:

"The higher the flux -- the rate at which cosmic rays bombard an object -- the larger the number of cosmic rays that hit a body [and] the more damage it can do to tissue over a short period of time."

Trips to Mars take as long as 7 months. A round-trip and landing adventure is projected to take as long as three years, according to Tech News World.
