The Surprise Kiss In 'Discovery of Love'

While it is possible to prepare for a k-drama kiss scene, some of the best kisses happen because the actress is surprised. That's what happened during the famous kiss scene in "The Heirs," shared by Park Shin Hye and Lee Min Ho. The element of surprise also played a part in the sweet kiss scene between Yoon Hyun Min and Kim Seul Gi in the recent romantic comedy "Discovery of Love."

When the couple met for a photoshoot for the November issue of Ceci fashion magazine, they talked about the kiss scene and why it was so surprising.  Kim Seul Gi, last seen as the manic webtoon editor in "Flower Boys Next Door," took on the role of furniture designer Yoon Sol in "Discovery of Love." Her character grew up with plastic surgeon Do Joon Ho, played by Yoon Hyun Min. But after a while his character realized he was developing romantic feelings for his childhood friend and housemate. One day he decided to kiss her. Or rather the actor did.

The two actors were friendly on set, just like their characters, and liked to joke around.

"I played a lot of annoying jokes on Seul Gi during the filming," said Yoon. "The way she handled them was not far off from her real life behavior so her acting appeared more natural."

But the biggest joke of all may have been their kiss, which surprised her.

"The kiss scene with Hyun Min was actually not in the script," said Kim Seul Gi. "He put in a kiss scene as an ad-lib without warning me, so I was so surprised that I fell backwards."

That reaction fit perfectly with the reaction her character might have had to the kiss. Kim Seul Gi is  a comedienne, known for her improve skills, and her appearance on Korea's Saturday Night Live.

"She thinks fast one her feet," said Yoon. "She may come across as cute but she is very sincere about acting. She is committed."

Kim Seul Gi brushed off the compliment and said that success in acting was all about collaboration.

"Even if I′m a good actor alone, if I can′t collaborate with the other person, it won′t work," she said. "If it wasn′t Hyun Min, we wouldn′t even have the Do-Sol Couple. He′s an actor that I want to work with again."
