Shazam Movie News: James Wan To Direct The Film! Will Familiarity Between Him And The Rock Work?

The new "Shazam" Movie is part of the announcement for Warner Brothers' DC properties. There is already an A-lister on the movie as the villain will be played by Dwayne Johnson.

The actor known as "The Rock" is confirmed to play Black Adam-an immortal Egyptian who will battle Captain Marvel (apparently, they are not using that name in the movie because of the reference to their rival comic book company/studio).

The movie is about to get a boost, as the rumors have a high profile director (and a familiar one for 'The Rock'). There was an announcement about another movie and the rumor was developed. Hit Fix had it covered:

"On Tuesday, New Line Cinema announced James Wan will return to direct "The Conjuring 2" as part of an overall producing deal at the Warner Bros. subsidiary. That's good news for fans of the director and of horror films, but MovieWeb zeroed in one this comment from New Line President Toby Emmerich:

James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He's the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one."

The official announcement by Toby Emmerich (New Line president/CEO):

"James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He's the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one."

Of course, the film will need a boost as it will stand apart from the DC Universe being built up at Warner Brothers but with James Wan and Dwayne Johnson, they have a good start.
