Ji Chang Wook is no ordinary messenger in the mystery thriller "The Healer." His character Seo Jung Hoo, also known as "The Healer," will deliver more than documents in some very extraordinary situations. He will deliver whatever is needed for whoever pays, no matter how high the personal risk. And to do so, he will use his fighting skills, smarts and charm, aided by the latest tech equipment.

Seo Jung Hoo is willing to risk his life because he wants to earn enough money to buy an island in South Pacific. Once he buys the island he plans to live there all alone. Seo is so disenchanted with the human race that he wants to minimize any potential interactions with other people.

According to Ji Chang Wook's agency, the actor is working hard to figure out his character.

"He's putting his heart and soul into the character."

The drama promises plenty of action scenes, plus a mystery and some romance.

The mystery concerns a decades-old pirate broadcasting station. Attempts to unravel the mystery will unite The Healer with two reporters. One is a famous broadcast reporter and the other is a reporter for an Internet news site that wants to be a serious journalist. Yoo Ji Tae, who last appeared in "A Star's Lover," plays Kim Moon Ho, the famous broadcast reporter. Park Min Young, last seen as a legal intern in "A New Leaf," plays the reporter who works for the Internet news site. Her character will also provide the love interest for Ji Chang Wook.

Together, the characters will work to uncover the truth and find justice. Will seeing justice done alleviate some of Seo Jung Hoo's cynicism and incline him to think more highly of the human race? It's possible. Maybe the message of the drama is that it's better to fight against evil than to isolate yourself from all human interaction.

The secret agent-like messenger is a different kind of role for Ji Chang Wook won praise for playing the role of Emperor Ta Hwan in the historical drama "Empress Ki." And it will offer him the opportunity to fine-tune his action skills.

Also cast in the "Healer" are Park Sang Won, Park Sang Myun and Kim Mi Kyung.

Writer Song Ji Nah of "Faith: The Great Doctor," "Legend," "Story of a Man" and "Sandglass,' has written the screenplay for "The Healer."

Lee Jung Sub, who directed "Baker King Kim Tak Gu," will direct the thriller.

"The Healer" will air on Dec. 8, after "Tomorrow Cantabile."
