‘To the Beautiful You’ Min Ho: “Having to Shoot a Kiss Scene With Sulli Who I Knew Since Elementary School…”
On the 13th of August, a press conference was held at the Imperial Palace hotel for the SBS drama 'To the Beautiful You,' where Min Ho revealed the difficulties of being the main character.
Min Ho plays the role of Kang Tae Joon, a chic and cold but also innocent gold medalist high jump athlete. However, because of an injury, he falls into despair. He then finds laughter in Goo Jae Hee (played by Sulli), who is a girl that disguised herself as a boy in order to attend an all-boys' athlete school and meet Kang Tae Joon.
Min Ho revealed, "Kang Tae Joon is a cold and blunt character and so it was hard getting into character when normally I got along very well with the other actors. Because of this, sometimes when I got into character I would also be mean to Sulli in real life as well without me realizing it. It was hard at first because both of us did not have much experience with acting but after filming for nearly a month together, we work together very well now. Since most of the actors are around my age, filming is very fun and enjoyable."
Sulli and Min Ho are both from SM Entertainment. When asked if it was awkward acting with Sulli who he knew for a long time, he replied, "I knew Sulli since elementary school so she is like a little sister to me. Because of this drama, we keep in contact more often and talking about it made us get naturally closer. At first I wondered whether I would be able to act well with her since I knew her for so long but I was able to develop feelings while seeing her everyday. More and more in the drama I feel like I am developing strange feelings."
Min Ho continued, "Although we may be close, I was still worried a lot about the kiss scene. Fortunately, the atmosphere was very natural on set. I was determined to do this scene with confidence. We were awkward at first, but after about 10 times it wasn't awkward anymore. Sulli even said, 'Oppa I'm comfortable now.'"
He also revealed, "It would be a lie if I said that I wasn't burdened. I feel very burdened and I started this knowing I was lacking. I was also worried because it was such a big role."
On the other hand, the first episode of 'To the Beautiful You' is to air on the 15th of August.
