2014 was a year for strong female characters in Korean drama. Shows like “My Lovely Girl” included close friendships between women while “Hi! School Love On” looked at the dynamics of teenage bullying. While she is known for her film roles, Kim Sae Ron carried her first K-Drama in 2014. Rookie actress Lee Sung Kyung struck gold as a flawed teen in “It’s Okay, That’s Love.”

Kyung Soo Jin was delightful as Ma Se Young in the tvN drama “Plus Nine Boys.” She has held previous roles in drama including “Secret Love Affair” and “That Winter, The Wind Blows.” However, her portrayal of Ma Se Young was one of the reasons to watch “Plus Nine Boys.”

Kim Sae Ron will always be remembered for her iconic role as So Mi in the 2010 film “The Man from Nowhere.” With her foot firmly placed with movies, she has acted in numerous Korean drama roles. However, “Hi! School Love On” provided the opportunity for Kim Se Ron to have a starring role in television. She was the perfect pick for Lee Seul Bi, an angel who is struggling the perils of teen life in Korea.
