2014 was a year in which a few k-drama couples went public with their relationships but it was also a year in which some k-drama couples called it quits.

Here's the lowdown on the couples who split up this year.

Kim Bum and Moon Geun Young met on the set of "Goddess of Fire: Jeonji," where he played her character's loyal protector. As he was the second lead, he did not win her character's heart. But he did earn Moon's affection. By the time the drama ended the two were a real-life item. They decided to go public with their relationship right away. After announcing that they were seeing each other they went on a backpacking trip to Europe. They might have avoided detection altogether except that fans spotted them together at a market in Prague.

Even though they made an attractive couple and fans wished them well, the relationship only lasted six months. When they broke up, his agency, King Kong Entertainment said they did so on good terms.

"They still support each other," said a King Kong Entertainment representative.

The other break-ups that garnered media attention in 2014 concerned the  "It's Okay, It's Love" co-stars Gong Hyo Jin and Jo In Sung. Despite the fact that they played a couple onscreen they did not break up with each other. The actors were each dating other actors at the time.

Gong Hyo Jin broke off her relationship with fellow actor Lee Jin Wook in September, three months after they finally acknowledged that they were dating. His agency, Will Entertainment said that the couple decided they would be better friends than lovers. But her agency, Soop Entertainment, said it was their busy schedule that made it too difficult to keep up a relationship.

It was not Lee Jin Wook's first k-drama break-up as he dated actress Choi Ji Woo for two years. Gong Hyo Jin previously dated actor Ryu Seung Bum.

It was only a few weeks later that Gong Hyo Jin's co-star Jo In Sung broke up with his girlfriend, actress Kim Min Hee. Jo dated Kim for a year and a half before calling it quits. On "Park Kyung Lim's Talk Concert" the actor spoke about the reasons for his breakup.

"I just don't understand women," he said. "Because of this I broke up with someone a few months ago."

It's Kim Min Hee's third k-drama break-up as she previously dated actors Lee Jung Jae for three years and model-turned-actor Lee Soo Hyuk for two years.
