The Taylor Swift penned phrase, "'This Sick Beat" has been trademarked. The next time someone would want to use the phrase, they might be sued by Taylor Swift and her attorneys for using it without her permission.

"'This Sick Beat" is not the only phrase Taylor Swift has protected. The business savvy singer has trademarked a number of phrases including, "Cause We Never Go Out of Style," "This Sick Beat," and "Party Like It's 1989."

Ms. Swift has also filed numerous trademarks earlier, which she's held for years, said reports. However, "Shake It Off" might be one of those phrases that Taylor may have overlooked.

The dominant pop artist may have gone too far "but it's an important insight into the way the merchandise business works for musicians," Vox.com reported.

"For many (not necessarily for Swift), album sales and streaming are no longer ways to make money as a career. One of the dominant income sources for many artists — whether they're top sellers like Swift or tiny singer-songwriters — is merchandise sales. Selling T-shirts turns a profit, but not if anyone can make knock-offs and sell them out from under you."

Vox continued to say, "Swift is doing here is something every artist does — making sure that the only person who profits off of her work and likeness, is her."

It might seem odd that a popular singer like Taylor Swift might take out so many trademarks, ranging from public appearances, ornaments, clothing, and even bath soaps under "This Sick Beat" label.

Recently, Taylor was on Forbes' list of the wealthiest entertainers under the age of 30.
