Hwang Jung Eum and Lee Ha Na are dynamic actresses who often portray quirky characters. Both women deliver endearing performances that leave audiences with the impression that the underdog can always succeed over the well-composed chaebol.

Lee Ha Na returned to Korean television on February 25 in the female dominated family series, “Unkind Women.” The KBS2 series premiered with strong ratings, beating “Jekyll, Hyde, and I” while closing approaching “Kill Me, Heal Me.” Lee portrays Jung Ma Ri, an enthusiastic educator who does her best to inspire her students, even though she is surrounded by downtrodden colleagues.

Lee Ha Na and Song Jae Rim have a steamy interaction in 'Unkind Women.'

“Unkind Women” opens with Ma Ri organizing a campus-wide event, where the students enjoy black bean sauce noodles (jajangmyeon). The drama establishes the strange dynamic between Ma Ri and Lee Ree Oh (Song Jae Rim) from its starting point. Ree Oh is a Kendo instructor and graduate student. His off-putting personality will fuel the inevitable romance between the pair.

Lee Ha Na has acted in a variety of roles ranging from her portrayal of a figure skating coach in the 2009 drama “Triple” to her endearing role as a secretary in her late twenties who falls in love with a high school student in “High School King of Savvy.”

Hwang Jung Eum shines when she is paired with Ji Sung. The duo were the primary reason to watch the 2013 melodrama “Secret Love.” While the scenes between their “Secret Love” characters were often disconcerting to watch, the on-screen couple has delivered endearing performances for their current drama, “Kill Me, Heal Me.”
