The purported sequel to BlackBerry's fairly successful Passport handset is here and it bears a resemblance to its predecessor.

An image of the Waterloo, BlackBerry's rumored forthcoming phone, dubbed the "Oslo," has leaked online, giving people sort of a sneak-peek into the rumored BlackBerry Passport successor. Besides the Leap, BlackBerry announced plans to unveil three more devices this year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). This includes a follow-up to the QWERTY-touch Classic, a dual-curved keyboard slider, and a collaboration with Porsche Design that will see the "Keian" come to life, MobileSyrup noted.

That said, Canadians shouldn't get too excited for the latest BlackBerry leak.

BlackBerryCentral reported that Ontario-based company is set to make another Passport inspired device that is known internally by "the Oslo." This is reportedly making its way to China, as well as other regions, according to reports on MobileSyrup.

The forthcoming device will reportedly sports curves identical to the AT&T branded Passport. As far as specs are concerned, the Oslo features:

  • 1440 x 1440 LCD display with 1:1 display
  • 2MP front-facing camera and 13MP back camera
  • 350mAh battery
  • BlackBerry 10.3.2

Barring just a few variations in its design, the Oslo's specs appear to be similar to the Passport, according to BlackBerry Central, the BlackBerry fan site which originally reported the Oslo's existence.

The Oslo in the leaked pictures bears a striking resemblance to the BlackBerry Passport. The Oslo sports rounded edges instead of rectangular shaped edges. Also, it has a different speaker fence from the Passport, ValueWalk noted. Rumors go as far as claiming that the phone will be made available in China, along with few other small countries. BlackBerry Central, however, noted that it will be launched globally and not just in China.

However, the device's specs could also potentially improve before its release, since it not slated to hit store shelves until a few months. If these speculations and reports are anything to go by, the Oslo has already revealed to a select audience during the Mobile World Congress in March this year.

The BlackBerry Oslo is rumored to launch in June 30.
