ZOMBIE MAMMA'S DRAMA REVIEW: Sensory Couple Episodes 1-2
You know, when I sat down to watch the first two episodes of Sensory Couple , I had absolutely no intention of writing a review afterwards. I simply wanted to sit down and watch a drama, just for the fun of it, but by the end of the second episode (well, actually about half-way through the first episode) I knew there'd be no way for me to watch this drama and not say anything about it, so here I sit, ready to dive into a drama that has captured my attention and quite possibly my heart. Anyone care to join me? Then let's go!
When you've got a drama that starts of with three murders, a chase scene, two car accidents, a girl in a coma and a brother so broken you feel your heart shattering as you watch him cry, you know you've found a drama that's going to keep you on your toes. But when the intensity of said drama is coupled with a healthy dose of humor, excellent OTP chemistry, a mysterious villain who has you shaking in your boots and a cast that has you squealing every time a new character is introduced, you know you've found yourself a winner. (Okay, so maybe two episodes is a bit early to call this one a winner but I've got high hopes my friends. High hopes indeed.)
It feels like ages since I last watched a drama starring Park Yoo Chun which is sad because it means I'd almost forgotten how much I love him as an actor. Needless to say, watching him play the role of Officer Choi Moo Gak quickly reminded me that Yoochun is so much more than just an incredible singer, he's also a brilliant actor and there's nothing I love more than watching him step into the role of a character too adorable to resist. Seriously. Choi Moo Gak is the most adorable, bumbling police officer I've ever seen and I can't help but love him. Of course, knowing that he's the world's most affectionate big brother and a soul so wounded he's completely lost his senses (as in literal senses such as smell, taste, touch, etc.) makes it impossible for me to not love him. He's just a big, broken sweetheart seeking revenge for the death of his sister. Granted that sweetheart has made it perfectly clear that he intends to kill the one who murdered his sister but I have a feeling he's not really going to go that far. Somehow I think spending time with Oh Choi Rim is going to make him have a change of heart and thank goodness for that! We can't have our adorable male lead turning into a murderer, now can we?
As far as female leads go, I'm incredibly intrigued by Oh Choi Rim (or should I say Choi Eun Seol) and I love that she's played by Shin Se Kyung because she brings such a unique personality to the character. There's something special about Shin Se Kyung and the way she's chosen to portray Oh Choi Rim... Quirky, adorable, plucky, intelligent, funny and determined Oh Choi Rim is a lot of things but I have a feeling there's more to this girl than even she realizes. After all, she woke up from a coma remembering nothing about her past which means everything she's thinking and feeling stems solely from whatever it is she's experienced in the past three years. Basically she's missing out on an entire lifetime of experiences and that has me thinking there's going to be even more depth to this girl once her memories start coming back. Now don't get me wrong here, I'm a fan of Oh Choi Rim exactly as she is. She's funny and adorable and I love the way she and Choi Moo Gak interact, they're just adorable, but I think there's more to her that's yet to be uncovered and I'm really excited to see how she grows as this story develops. Okay, to be fair I'm excited to see how both she and Moo Gak grow as this story progresses because you know they're going to and you now it's going to be so much fun to watch! Eeep! I'm so excited! *ahem* Sorry, my feels got the better of me for a second. I'm better now.
With the likes of Lee Won Jong, Jung In Ki, Nam Goong Min, Jo Hee Bong and Park Jin Joo rounding out the cast, I can't help but feel more than just a little bit of excitement over the potential this drama holds. There are so many great actors working on this one, how can you not expect great things? The fact that we've already got so much mystery going on here and so much intensity, as everyone races against the clock to find that poor, missing model, has me convinced we're in for some pretty exciting moments but there's so much more to this drama and I just love that! We've got ourselves a truly frightening serial killer for a villain who appears to be disguising himself as a renowned doctor, a famous chef of a boyfriend, so desperate to find his missing girlfriend, he's willing to travel half-way around the world to help find her, a hero of a cop who has almost no senses and a weird habit of falling asleep at the worst imaginable times and a heroine with a bad case of amnesia and an incredible ability to see smells. To say there's a lot of potential here would be a bit of an understatement and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really, really, really looking forward to finding out what happens next.
As with any good mystery, I do have several questions I'd like to see answered. For one, like Moo Gak, I want to know if there's any significance to the bar codes the serial killer left on each of his victims. Has anyone bothered to check if they're actual codes or did they all just assume they're nothing more than the killer's calling card? I'd also like to know if the model is actually this killer's next victim. They're certainly making us think she is but what if it's all a wild goose chase and that other poor guy is actually the next on this killer's list? I'm also very curious to see how long it's going to take Choi Rim's "dad" to tell her the truth about her identity. I mean I get why he did what he did, taking her in and giving her a new name an all, because it's already become painfully obvious this serial killer is still searching for the girl who got away, but the truth is going to have to come out sometime. What I wonder is, will her dad tell her before or after this killer makes another attempt on her life?
Obviously, I'm very much looking forward to the next episodes. I have a feeling the next few weeks are going to be painful as being forced to wait a week to find out what happens next is never fun, especially when you've got a show this exciting. As I sit here and impatiently wait for the next episode, I'd love to hear what you think of these first two episodes.
