Looking good in a white coat is an important qualification for playing a doctor in a k-drama and model-turned-actor Kim Young Kwang certainly qualifies.

The actor will don a doctor's coat when he appears in the upcoming disaster medical drama "D-Day." It won't be his first time wearing that white MD's coat. He previously played surgeon Han Jin Wook, part of Joo Won's medical team, in the 2013 drama "Good Doctor."

Since appearing in that medical drama, he has taken a couple of comic roles. He drew positive attention when he played the office worker in love with his co-worker in "Nine Plus Boys" and also when he played a rich kid reporter, competing with Lee Jong Suk for Park Shin Hye in "Pinocchio."

He had another chance to play Lee Jong Suk's rival in the film "Hot Young Bloods." In that film he played the leader of a rival school gang. Kim acquired more practice playing a doctor when he took the role of a therapist in the Korean-Chinese web drama "Love Clinic" with 2NE1's Sandara Park.

Kim Young Kwang has proven himself as an actor but he also demonstrated his ability to look good in any kind of coat. Before he turned to acting, he was a much-in-demand, award-winning model, walking the runways for designers such as Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. He made his acting debut in the 2008 drama "World Within" and has worked consistently since then.

So far Kim is the first actor to be cast in "D-Day" but his is a leading role. As the show is produced by SM C&C, it is also likely that some of the roles will be filled by SM idol-actors.

In "D-Day" Kim will play Dr. Lee Hae Song. He is one of the doctors who must treat the residents of Seoul when a disaster strikes and incapacitates the city. The usual relief systems fail so rescue workers and emergency doctors must improvise to bring help to the injured.

Lee Hae Song was never the kind of doctor who liked to follow rules and while his unorthodox approach to life creates problems in many everyday situations, it also makes him a very effective doctor in an emergency situation. He knows how to improvise.

The JTBC medical drama is set to start shooting in June and is scheduled to air after "My Love Eun Dong."
