That Winter The Wind Blows

"One thing that the viewers hated more than the kiss was..."

Kim Young Hoon currently plays the role of Oh Young's (Song Hye Kyo) fiancé Lee Myung Ho in the ever popular SBS drama "That Winter, The Wind Blows". So far, Lee Myung Ho has been portrayed as a character who is marrying Oh Young for her wealth. Even though he is dedicated to get married to Oh Young, he finds himself unable to end his relationship with his girlfriend. Also, he is an enemy of Oh Soo (Jo In Sung) when he works with Secretary Wang (Bae Jong Ok) to reveal the truth about Oh Soo's real identity.

Lee Myung Ho is the worst possible guy for Oh Young. In the 6th episode of "That Winter, The Wind Blows" that aired February 27, Lee Myung Ho tells Oh Young that he loves her but seems very bored throughout their date. Even when Oh Young talks to him excitedly, he keeps touching his phone with a bored expression on his face since she is unable to use her eyes. He suddenly kisses Oh Young unexpectedly at the end of their date, making Oh Soo hesitate.

Regarding the kiss scene, Kim Young Hoon revealed in a recent interview, "People had so many negative comments about the kiss scene. They hated me. Song Hye Kyo, Oh Young is a beautiful character so imagine how much hate I received. People just told me negative things straight up after the kiss scene aired."

Kim Young Hoon spoke of all the hateful messages he received from viewers but he stated that he was thankful because it just meant that all these people were very focused on the story of the drama. He added, "A lot of people express their jealousy for being able to work with Song Hye Kyo. They tell me things like, 'You must have saved a country'".

However, there is a real reason why people hate Kim Young Hoon. Rather than stealing beautiful Song Hye Kyo's kiss, the scene there he plays with his phone while she is talking made him the center of deep hatred.

Kim Young Hoon stated, "Unexpectedly, a lot more people were angrier about the fact where he plays with his phone rather than the kiss scene." Kim Young Hoon continued to explain that he understands his character's perspective. It is mandatory for an actor to understand their character in order to portray them effectively.

Kim Young Hoon added, "I understand Lee Myung Ho. I wouldn't be able to act if I didn't understand. He is a bad guy. However, there are a lot of people like him in the world. There are far worse people than Lee Myung Ho" and "Lee Myung Ho is not a successful person from the start. He works hard to get ahead and this time, he's just way over his head."

"People say Lee Myung Ho is a bad person but I feel bad for him sometimes. He is a bad guy for sure but he is living with a very hard decision. It's sad because all of it results from his ambitions that rule his mind."

"The writer, Noh Hui Kyung does not create villains. There is no classic villain in her works. When you look at a villain closely, you can understand the reasoning behind their acts. There are a lot of people who will be left as just 'bad people' but characters like Lee Myung Ho, Secretary Wang, Jin So Ra and more all have personal stories of their own. This is another reason why I have high respect for the writer and the director of this drama."
