It must have been a difficult choice to make since it was Lee Seung Gi's first attempt at a historical drama. Also, the innocent school-girl image of Bae Suzy was thought to be way too strong for a historical drama. She needed to overcome the awkwardness she showed in dramas like "Dream High" and "Big".
When Lee Seung Gi and Bae Suzy appeared together for the first time in "Gu Family Book", they were flawless in their portrayal of their characters.
** Love Between Half-Man and a Person: Their Fateful Meeting
They were all worth the wait. Lee Seung Gi's presence shines through even in a historical drama and Bae Suzy successfully got rid of her image to transform into a tomboy character. Their first fateful meeting left a powerful impression when their fate was foretold to be tragic.
Lee Seung Gi's character Choi Kang Chi is the son of Gu Wol Ryung (Choi Jin Hyuk) and Yoon Seo Hwa (Lee Yeon Hee). He is also half-man and half-animal. Yoon Seo Hwa wanted her son to live a normal life as a man with other people. He becomes in the care of Park Moo Sol (Uhm Hyo Sup) and for over 20 years, he lived his life unaware of his identity. Although Choi Kang Chi appears to be bright and energetic, he is deeply scarred from his broken heart since he is forbidden to love Park Chung Jo (Lee Yoo Bi).
On the other hand, Bae Suzy's character Dam Yeo Wool is like a heroine. She is very cool and is extremely talented in martial arts. Even though Dam Yeo Wool is more innocent than anybody in the whole drama, she saves Choi Kang Chi's life from the men chasing her. Even though she was told that she will be doomed if she meets Choi Kang Chi, she saves his life and they begin their journey. Will their fate be as tragic just like Choi Kang Chi's parents?
At the moment, it is unclear why they should not meet, they will begin to love each other soon enough. And eventually, they will have to face a heartbreaking tragedy just like fate planned. They may have to make a crucial decision in the process that may affect the other.
Will these two lovers be able to have a different ending from the one Choi Kang Chi's parents had? Will Lee Seung Gi and Dam Yeo Wool be able to live through their fate?
