The console wars are hitting fever pitch after Gamescon 2015 has been announced. With both Sony and Microsoft archrivals in the gaming business, there is no saying if PS4 vs Xbox One will come out ahead at Gamescon.

Recently, Sony posted its sales figures, capping 3 million PS4 consoles in the first quarter of 2015. Microsoft gaming technology leaves much to be desired with 1.4 million total Xbox's purchased during Q1 of this year. Those announcements came last week. With the hype surrounding Gamescom 2015 this week, analysts say that Xbox is on target to equal or surpass Sony PS4 sales.

On Tuesday's press conference ahead of the gaming gala, Richmond, Seattle-based Microsoft announced that "Gears of War" was getting backwards compatibility on Xbox One later this year, IBT reported.  There was more in stock from Microsoft including "Halo Wars 2, a release date for Windows 10 for Xbox One and along with trailers for "Crackdown 3," "Quantum Break," "Homefront: The Revolution," and "Forza 6." It is also upping the "Halo" eSports pool to $1 million for the Halo World Championship."

All that is extra compared to the E3 2015 revelations about Xbox One Backwards Compatibility, wireless Xbox One controller, the "Rare Replay" function, "Fallout 4" and "Gears of War 4," IBT shared.

When it revealed the Q1 2015 sales report, Sony announced its sale of 25 million units of PS4 worldwide. In the PS4 vs Xbox One console wars, that translates to 39 million PS4 sales by March end. While Microsoft is shy when  it comes to publishing total stats on Xbox One, the estimate for its video console is closer to 30 million.

Gamescon 2015 will be held in Cologne, Germany from August 6 to August 9. It is comparable to the CES tradeshow  for electronic devices.
