‘Modern Family’ Star Sofia Vergara Teases 'Jay Pritchett' Ed O'Neill With 'Married With Children' Reference

"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara Instagramed a selfie, in which she looked like Ed O'Neill's other TV wife, Peggy Bundy.

She wore a voluminous red wig along with a revealing outfit and heavy make-up to achieve a perfect "Peggy (played by Katey Sagal)" look. The 43-year old star used the photo to tease her "Modern Family" on-screen husband Ed O'Neill.

Before playing Jay Pritchett in "Modern Family", Ed used to play a grumpy shoe salesman named, Al Bundy in "Married.... With Children."  The FOX sitcom ran for 11 seasons from 1987 to 1997. His character Al, dreamed of achieving everything that "Modern Family's" Jay Pritchett already had - respect, cash, success and a gorgeous wife to adore him.

Instead of all that he had wished for, he got a "bon bon-loving, brash, and big-haired Peggy Bundy," reported EntertainThis!.  

His former on-screen kids, who were extremely fond of their "dysfunctional family" (including Christina Applegate) from "Married... with Children," were thrilled to see that Sofia Vegara had pulled back Peggy out of the dark.

"Do you like this look Ed Oneal[sic]???,"  "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara wrote alongside her Peggy snap on Instagram.

David Faustino, who played Ed's younger son, Bud in "Married... with Children" revealed that a spin-off of the classic sitcom was in the works, reported the Dailymail.co.uk.

"Sony has it (Married ... with Children reboot). They're excited about it," Faustino told E!Online in July. He added, "They're working out some legal issues that we hope they work out.The whole cast, including Christina, is down to do little bits in it. ......The idea would be a pilot for a spin-off. That's all I can say right now. It involves me and few other people."

The cast of "Married... With Children" reunited in September 2014 for Katey's Hollywood Walk of fame ceremony, reported the Daily News.

"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara and Katey Sagal had first met at O'Neill's Walk of Fame Ceremony in 2011.
