Kim Sae Ron Receives Best Actress And Rookie Honors At Major Chinese Film Festival
Teen actress Kim Sae Ron received two major awards at the 24th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. The 15-year-old star was the recipient of the Best Actress award for her performance in the special TV movie, "Snowy Road." The event, which is widely regarded as the Chinese equivalent to the Oscars, concluded on September 19.
According to a report published in the pop culture section of the Korea Herald, Kim was honored for her nuanced role in the melodramatic production. "Snowy Road" is a television special that was released by KBS, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese occupation. "Snowy Road" also received the Best Picture award.
The gripping story focused on teenaged girls who were driven into prostitution by the occupying forces.
In addition to receiving the Best Actress award, Kim was honored with a Rookie award for her controversial role in, "A Girl At My Door." She portrayed Do Hee, a 14-year-old abuse victim who is aided by a policewoman. Bae Doona leads the film Lee Young Nam, a police instructor who is reassigned to a different position, after a scandal.
While Kim Sae Ron has taken on conventional characters like her portrayal of an angel in "Hi! School Love On," she gained popularity with domestic audiences with edgy roles like Jung So Min in "The Man from Nowhere."
She recently appeared in the Naver TV Cast series, "To Be Continued," alongside Fantagio's rookie group, ASTRO. Kim returns to television as the teenage version of Choi Kang Hee, in the MBC series, "Glorious Temptation."
