Glenn Close and her husband David Shaw divorced after nine years of marriage, Page Six has exclusively learned. The actress had married the venture capitalist, Shaw, in Maine in 2006. After the divorce, she is returning to New York to give focus on her career.

"Glenn and David have been telling friends over the summer they are divorcing, and he'll remain living in Maine while Glenn moves back to New York full-time," an insider informed Page Six. "They've been separated for some time, and things are amicable between them," the source added.

While announcing that the actress is officially divorced, the spokesperson also confirmed that the couple ended their marriage this summer, Page Six said.

The marriage to Shaw was the third marriage for Close. The 68-year-old star has a daughter, Annie Maude Starke, 27, with her ex, John Starke.

The celebrated actress was philosophical about marriage in the past.  She told People in the late 1980s about what she gathered from her second marriage to James Marlas. She described women as being defined by their men and said she was an "amoeba" in her marriage.

Close, who played Michael Douglass' mistress in the popular American psychological thriller "Fatal Attraction", thinks men are nurtured by women. She also feels that this is not reciprocated by men. She thinks of men and women as "different species."

Close added that Katharine Hepburn said that they should live next door and visit each other once in a while. Close feels that it is not a bad idea.

"I don't particularly think marriage is a natural state. Men and women are so vastly different . . . Why put more pressure on by binding yourself to someone?" she said in 1991.

Close, who was nominated six times for the Oscar Award from the Academy of Motion Pitctures and has a successful career as an actress. She's getting back together with John Malkovich for the first time since 1988 in "Wilde Wedding."

The movie is being shot this month. Her next movie, "She Who Brings Gifts," will be released in 2016. In April she'll reprise her role as Norma Desmond in "Sunset Boulevard" onstage in London. She is also in talks to join Ed Helms and Owen Wilson in the comedy "Bastards," Page Six reported.
