'Dramaworld' Will Premiere On April 17

BY Adrienne Stanley

Viki recently announced the April 17 premiere date of the original series, "Dramaworld."

On February 12, the global television provider released details for "Dramaworld," a 10-episode web drama that will air exclusively through Viki.com.

"In many ways, 'Dramaworld' exemplifies the future of TV: global production partners, an international cast and crew, a storyline written for an international and increasingly mobile audience, and digital-only distribution deals," said Viki CEO Tammy H. Nam, in a press release.

The first original series from Viki, an online provider of multilingual subtitled Asian entertainment, "Dramaworld"  tells the tale of Claire Duncan, a college student who is enraptured by Korean drama and is captivated by the latest programs to hit TV. Claire is portrayed by Australian rookie actress, Liv Hewson.

She is joined by Sean Dulake (Athena: Goddess of War), who is Joon Park, her ideal leading man.

Dulake previously reached international audiences through his appearance and narration of "Korea Next: Finding Hallyuwood," a 2012 documentary which chronicled the phenomenon of the Korean Wave.

Justin Chon (Twilight) is Seth, Claire's newfound friend who helps her navigate through the world of K-Drama.

The romantic comedy transitions into the realm of fantasy, when Claire is transported into her favorite drama.

Each episode of the program will feature appearances by Hallyu personalities including Super Junior's Choi Siwon, who recently entered the military, following the success of his turn as Kim Shin Hyuk, a humorous fashion editor in "She Was Pretty."

Han Ji Min (Rooftop Prince, Salut D'Amour) also provides a cameo in the series.

Set within Korea and Los Angeles, "Dramaworld" will feature English and Korean languages. The episodes will be available for global streaming on Viki.com, with the exception of Korea and China.

Chinese audiences will have the opportunity to view "Dramaworld" through Jetavana Entertainment, which holds streaming rights for the region.
