With just hours before the D-day, Netflix entices fans with the captivating behind-the-scenes for the highly anticipated premiere of "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" starring Jun Ji Hyun and Park Byung Eun.

The streaming platform shared a glimpse of the thrilling and overwhelming atmosphere in making of the "Kingdom" spinoff.

"Big scale, overwhelming atmosphere, characters, actors who are completely immersed in their characters. Finally, today," the caption reads.

In a series of photos shared over Netflix Korea's official Instagram account, the Hallyu star, who plays the titular Ashin, discusses the scenes with PD Kim Sung Hoon.

In the second photo, the 44-year-old actor who plays Min Chi Rok was photographed wearing a traditional army outfit while carrying his sword as he listened to the director's instruction.

Both Jun Ji Hyun and Park Byung Eun manage to reprise their roles from the previous season.

In "Kingdom 2," he was introduced as the head of the Royal Commandery Division while the "Legends of the Sea" star appeared in the season 2 finale, hinting about her mysterious character.

Apart from the duo, the "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" behind-the-scenes also showcases how meticulous and precise the production process was in order to give the viewers a thrilling continuation of the period drama.

Fans need not to worry as the highly anticipated special episode of "Kingdom" is set to be released on July 23 exclusively on Netflix.

A Roster of Talented Actors and Crew

Aside from Jun Ji Hyun and Park Byung Eun, the K-drama spinoff welcomes their new cast member starting with Kim Shi Ah as the young Ashin.

The teaser suggests that the purple flower known as the resurrection plant was discovered by Ashin when she was young and planned on using it on her dead mother.

Meanwhile, veteran actor Kim Roe Ha portrays the role of Ashin's father, Ta Hab, while "Peninsula" actor Koo Kyo Hwan plays the brutal tribe leader, Ai Da Gan.

PD Kim Sung Hoon and renowned screenwriter Kim Eun Hee, who both helmed on the previous "Kingdom," also worked on the upcoming special episode.

Uncovers the Origin of the Resurrection Plant

In "Kingdom" season 1 and 2, the whole Joseon was engulfed in a mysterious plague that attacked the living person.

Interestingly, director Kim Sung Hoon revealed in his previous interview that "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" is set to go back "to the entire reason of why these themes occur," referring to the flesh-eating creature that attacked the whole Kingdom.

"Through new characters and new situations, new conflicts arise, and I think that is what motivates us to go to the next season, and that's why I said it was like a stepping stone," he mentioned.

In addition, the spinoff also focuses on Ashin's story, which aims for vengeance.

Intriguing Trailers and Still Cuts

Months before the premiere, Netflix is slowly unveiling the captivating still cuts and trailers that hint at what the viewers can expect of the much-awaited special episode.

In the movie's first official poster, the words "vengeance is coming" were displayed, suggesting Ashin's journey to the north.

In addition, the teaser also described Jun Ji Hyun's character as "the woman abandoned by all," which is why she's the only one left after her family and tribe were attacked by the plague.
