News reports claim that Mariah Carey is purportedly adding a new position to her resume, that of a director.

According to Daily Mail, the singer is reportedly directing a Christmas movie for Hallmark channel.

"Titled 'Christmas Melody,' the movie will star actress Lacey Chabert, best known for her role as Gretchen Weiners in hit teen movie Mean Girls," the news report said.

"Filming is already underway for the project, having kicked off in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Tuesday. But while the singing sensation is trying her hand at directing, it seems acting is still a no go for the star," the report continued.

Though Mariah Carey has been trying on the shoes of a director, her musical background is set to guide her on the Christmas project.

"Mariah will have a large musical input however, and will feature her music throughout the film," Daily Mail wrote.

Many fans are highly anticipating Mariah Carey's Christmas film and are excited to find out if she is as good a director as she is a singer.

There are also speculations about the timing of Mariah Carey's directorial debut.

Is it her way of proving she's not a has-been amid rumors that Christina Aguilera's camp thinks that her good days in the music industry are done?

"Christina has sat back while people like Britney Spears and Mariah Carey have attempted to pack in the crowds in Vegas, and she knows that she can blow them out of the water," a source previously told Dish Nation.

According to previous news reports, Aguilera allegedly wants to score a Vegas residency, but her manager, Irving Azoff, is purportedly not on board.

"Not time yet," Irving said, as quoted by VH1 in a previous report. "[Christina's] about to go back on The Voice, about to finish her record, about to do another guest shot on Nashville and the record's amazing."

"Christina's not peaked yet. She's in the prime of her career. We'll tour the world, but we're not ready to sit down in Vegas," the manager added.

Some readers found the statement of Christina Aguilera's manager quite conceited, suggesting that having a Vegas residency means that the singer's career has already peaked.
