Producers of Sherlock Holmes Season 4, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, have finally nailed the release date for the much awaited show as January 01, 2016. The premiere show will be premiered on Masterpiece Mystery! on PBS at 9:00pm ET, and simultaneously online at pbs.org/masterpiece. This special will be followed by the long-awaited Season 4 of Sherlock, which will be comprised of three 90-minute episodes, airing sometime in 2016, said Movie Web.

Oscar nominee, Benedict Cumberbatch will begin filming the fourth season of Sherlock next spring when the full series will go into production. Airdate for full series is yet to be decided, stated Movie Web. The smash hit detective drama had first aired in 2010 and since then it has made the 39-year old actor as a global superstar.

Dr. Watson portrayed by Martin Freeman, who has remained Sherlock Holmes' sidekick and stalwart companion, will also make a comeback to the contemporary TV version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic stories, said Sunday Express. Other beloved characters such as, Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) will also turn up at the show on 221b Baker Street.

The special episode, "The Abominable Bride," the 90-minute Victorian era episode, will premiere on New Year's Day and it will appear in movie theaters worldwide, granting everyone access to the tenacious sleuth and his faultless comrade, Dr. John Watson, revealed Latin Post.

BBC promo had earlier provided a brief glimpse after which a Masterpiece PBS unveiled a full trailer. this summer that fans will also get the chance to watch the special in select movie theaters in the U.S. Executive producer Steven Moffat told the SDCC crowd that this is one of the finest episodes they have ever produced, and he even considered shifting the series to this time period, aid Comic con.
