MBC weekend drama "Golden Rainbow" is off to a disappointing start.  The fast plot and the great acting by the actors was great to draw in the ground but there was also a disappointing side to the controversial topic.

According to Neilsen Korea, a ratings research company, "Golden Rainbow" was broadcast on November 2nd and recorded 10.9% in ratings.

This is lower than the 16.4% ratings for the first episode of "Scandal" that was its predecessor.  Compared to the 17.5% ratings of "Scandal" in its last episode, ratings have gone down 6.6%.  Although it has double digits in ratings, this is disappointing compared to the success of the former drama series and especially considering the start of writer Kim Soo Hyun's new piece on SBS "The Woman Who Marries Three Times" the future ratings of this drama is not one to be guaranteed.

On this first episode of "Golden Rainbow" Young Hae (played by Do Ji Won) ends up getting split with her daughter Ha Bin (played by Lee Chae Mi) because of her husband's death.  She was in turmoil and Han Joo (played by Kim Sang Joong) couldn't help but watch.  Han Joo wanted to find Young Hae's daughter and ends up kidnapping Uk Jo (played by Ahn Nae Sang) and his child.  Kim Han Joo ended up going to jail for the woman he loved and he started to take care of the child after being released as this was a foreshadowing for a secret surrounding the child's death in the future.

On this episode, the great acting of Kim Sang Joon, Jo Min Ki and Do Ji Won, mid-aged actors was apparent.  Do Ji Won showed great maternal love in her acting and Kim Sang Joong was extremely charismatic as Park Won Sook perfected the role of a evil mother-in-law.  The fast-paced plot was also something to draw interest.

However, from the first episode, the controversial issue of kidnapping made viewers frown and there were criticisms that a "secret surrounding birth" was too obvious.

In the 2nd episode to be aired on November 3rd, ten years will pass and the adult scenes of Baek Won (played by Kim Yoo Jung) who grew up to be bright and charming will be shown.  From this episode, Kim Yoo Jung as well as Suh Young Joo, Oh Jae Moo, Choi Ro Woon and other child stars will be present.

It'll be interesting to see how "Golden Rainbow" that has chosen the fine line between a controversial drama and a controversial drama will carry itself forward.
