#ALIVE Dominates Box Office But Some Viewers Are Not Impressed — Here's Why

#ALIVE is on top of the box office with a whopping 800,000 plus ticket sales sold as of June 27.

But don't get deceived by the numbers though, as, surprisingly for those who haven't seen this zombie-thriller apocalyptic film, some moviegoers have been opposing its current position.

A lot of viewers have expressed their dismay to the film, and now, it has been getting low ratings from the audience, which manifests how they dislike the whole movie.

Though some viewers like the whole plot, pleasing everybody is not even possible, even though the actors have really done a great job.

Many have highly anticipated this film, and we cannot deny that the number of viewers speaks for itself. Getting more than 800,000 moviegoers is no joke, considering that the pandemic is still ongoing.

The KOFIC have finally succeeded in their mission to boost the film industry. Little alone, last June 27, more than 400,000 cinema-goers for the first time in over four months since the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year.

Their giving of discount coupons has worked so very well that the number of viewers has been increasingly getting higher and higher as the weeks pass by.

"Innocence," which premiered on June 10, was the first Korean movie to have exceeded 500,000 viewers since the health crisis. However, #ALIVE attracted over 200,000 cinema-goers on its opening day and even surpassed 800,000 viewers.

Though the actors played their roles very well, some viewers couldn't be any happier. One unhappy viewer even wrote on Naver movie that the movie has no plot at all. The viewer even wondered what the actors saw in this when they decided to take the roles.

Another one also wrote that the movie was quite simple compared to the performances of the actors. There was no explanation of how the virus spread or any background about it. The person added that there were a plenty of blanks that should be filled in.

That's just the point of view for some viewers. However, the director explained why it was plotted in such a manner. Director Cho Il-Hyung said that his goal was to highlight the protagonists' survival, which was unusual to zombie films we see where the background was given emphasis and would usually cover more time when doing the production.

He planned on making the audience think how what it's like to be alive, given the situation and how it would make the audience feel to have someone by your side who wants to be alive no matter how hard it is and their chance of survival is very minimal.

Director Cho Il-Hyung really wanted to put the spotlight on surviving an apocalypse. That's why there was no background as to why or how there was an outbreak, as the title itself says, #ALIVE.

Park Shin Hye and Yoo Ah In have definitely impressed viewers and left them satisfied with their superb acting. A viewer commented that the movie did a nice job getting rid of the unnecessary details and featuring the realistic aspect of humans trying to survive despite its rough ending.

Viewers have taken a different approach as to how the plot was designed, but one thing is for sure: the two actors will return your money's worth.
