Director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared more details about the much-anticipated "Squid Game" Season 2.

'Squid Game' Season 2 Update

All eyes are on director Hwang Dong Hyuk after he confirmed there would be an upcoming "Squid Game" Season 2.

On April 17, according to a published report on News 1, the director gave more details about the show. He said there will be a better game to be featured, but he is still brainstorming and collecting ideas on what to showcase in the second season.

In addition, since many are curious whether Jung Ho Yeon would make another appearance in the series, the director mentioned that the actress' character might have twin sisters, giving fans a hint of the possible new plot.

Last April 9, Hwang Dong Hyuk confirmed through Deadline the two cast members Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will reprise their roles.

'Squid Game' Season 2 To be Released on Netflix in 2024

Meanwhile, on April 5, director Hwang Dong Hyuk announced that "Squid Game" Season 2 will be released on Netflix in 2024 at an event on MIPTV in Cannes, France.

Cannes Series festival was established in 2018 and aims to promote and highlight various series from all over the world and become the voice of this modern and ultra-creative art.

On the other hand, Lee Jung Jae will attend this years' Cannes Film Festival as his directorial debut film "The Hunt" is invited to the prestigious event. 

Furthermore, the director also mentioned he is preparing for another work. He currently works on "Killing Old People Club."

The director added it is going to be more violent than "Squid Game."

As for his future projects, he said, "Political polarization, the cultural differences, and difficulties, as well as the environmental climate changes that have been happening today, will most likely be talked about in my future projects."

'Squid Game' Achievements

"Squid Game" achieved a slew of awards and recognition. It became the most popular series on Netflix and had 1.65 billion of hours viewing in just 28 days since it aired on September 17, 2021.

Its lead stars Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon bagged major awards at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. They also made history as the first Asians to win top acting category in the prestigious event.
