Kang Dong Won's First Hollywood Movie Gets Postponed Indefinitely

In an exclusive report cited by Osen, "Tsunami L.A" have officially wrapped up its production; unfortunately, because of COVID-19-related reasons, the team has decided to suspend the release.

The outlet did not mention the particular reason behind postponing the film indefinitely, but viewers expect to see Kang Dong Won have his Hollywood debut.

To recall, the 41-year-old star officially confirmed his appearance in 2017 after being offered to play the role of surfer boy in the upcoming disaster film.

According to a report, Kang Dong Won told Variety how thrilled he is to become a part of Simon West's film, who is known as the director of hit movies like "Con Air," "Tomb Raider," and "The Expendables 2."

"I enjoyed reading the scenario, and I think it is a rare opportunity to make an international debut with a leading role," he said.

Meanwhile, the "Tsunami L.A" director praised the South Korean star noting how happy he is to be "able to show the world an actor with excellent skills through this project."

 He also said he wanted the actor to be part of the movie.

At the time, the upcoming movie was planned to premiere in 2019 but was postponed several times due to unforeseeable reasons.

Following the official announcement regarding Kang Dong Won's Hollywood debut, he underwent rigorous training and preparations for the movie, including martial arts training and surf lessons.

According to CNA Lifestyle, he mentioned that learning how to surf is one of the most challenging parts, especially at times when he feels he wasn't very good at it.

The Simon West-directed movie "Tsunami L.A" focuses on the mass destruction after a massive tidal wave hit Los Angeles.

Despite the unfortunate update regarding Kang Dong Won's supposed to be Hollywood debut, he recently made headlines after joining the star-studded cast of "Broker."

The drama film, which competed and won at the Cannes Film festival 2022 for Best Actor through Song Kang Ho, depicts a story about children who get abandoned through a baby box.

In the movie, Kang Dong Won plays one of the brokers alongside veteran actor Song Kang Ho. The duo is responsible for finding the baby's new family after being abandoned by their mother.

Helmed by Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu, "Broker" also stars IU, Bae Doona, and Lee Joo Young.
