Kim Hye Soo Returns as Mother of Joseon Prince in tvN’s ‘Umbrella’

tvN unveils the powerhouse cast headlining the historical K-drama "Umbrella" led by Kim Hye Soo. 

On its official Instagram, the broadcast network introduced the cast lineup for the upcoming series featuring a mix of rookie and veteran stars. 

'Umbrella' Confirms Cast Lineup

Joining Kim Hye Soo as lead stars are Choi Won Young, Moon Sang Min, Kim Hae Sook, Ok Ja Yeon, and SF9's Chani. 

Adding to the list of impressive cast lineup are Kim Eui Sung, Kim Min Ki, Kim Ga Eun, and Yoo Seon Ho.

Helmed by "Lovers in Prague," "Twenty Again" and "Prince Coffee Lab" by Kim Hyung Shik, the historical K-drama follows the story of a troubled prince during the Joseon Dynasty. 

In "Umbrella" Kim Hye Soo takes the role of the prince's mother, Im Hwa Ryeong, and the wife of the great king Lee Ho played by Choi Won Young. 

Im Hwa Ryeong is a hot-tempered queen who experiences a rift within the palace due to her son, Lee Kang and soon-to-be Prince Seongnam, portrayed by Moon Sang Min. 

In addition to the cast lineup, RAIN will also be having a cameo for "Umbrella" which will be his first appearance in the historical K-drama. 

Viewers would witness the transformation of Kim Hye Soo as she plays a middle-aged mother whose only concern is her children. 

Release Date and Where to Watch 'Umbrella'

Kim Hye Soo's new drama "Umbrella" is set to be released sometime in October 2022.

In her recent post, the award-winning star posted a glimpse of their script reading for "Umbrella."

It can be recalled that she received a thoughtful gift from "Smugglers" co-star Jo In Sung back in July. 

Showing their unique friendship, the food truck banner includes a phrase that reads "I-Hye Soo-cream sent to the family members of 'Shuroop.' Please eat refreshingly and be 'Hwa Ryung,'" which is the actress' new character. 

"Umbrella" and her upcoming movie "Smugglers" are Kim Hye Soo's follow-up project after the hit Netflix series "Juvenile Justice."


'Juvenile Justice' Season 2: Will Kim Hye Soo Return as Judge Shim in the Sequel?

Finally, after months of waiting, the hit crime series gets the green light for season 2. 

Reports confirmed that "Juvenile Justice'' season 2 is currently in the pre-production stage as of August and will be under the supervision of director Hong Jong Chan, who helmed season 1. 

As for the cast members, Netflix is yet to confirm the stars who will reprise their roles and new faces who will join season 1.
