Kim Hye Soo Becomes Doting Mother in ‘The Queen’s Umbrella’
tvN unveiled Kim Hye Soo's new character in her K-drama comeback "The Queen's Umbrella." The broadcast network showed a glimpse of the actress as she transformed into the perfect queen and ideal husband to Joseon's King.
Kim Hye Soo Illustrates the Struggles of Being a Royal, Mother in 'The Queen's Umbrella'
In the latest still cuts for the upcoming historical series, "The Queen's Umbrella," Kim Hye Soo plays Queen Im Hwa Ryeong.
Besides being the number one supporter of the King, and the nation's queen, she illustrates being the ideal mother to his sons and soon-to-be crown princes.
As seen in the teaser, it featured the colorful life of the middle-aged Queen Im Hwa Ryeong who is unafraid to show her fierce side despite the court lady trying to stop her.
In the forthcoming K-drama, the Joseon Queen will do everything in her power to protect his children.
Despite her status, she shows that every royal is also a human, and as for Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, she falls to her knees and out in the rain, showcasing her struggles as a mother.
The upcoming tvN series will not only portray a life of a royal family but also how the queen is a doting mother to her sons.
According to Dispatch Korea, Kim Hye Soo described her character as "a person with the greatest power of love."
Moreover, she hints at what the viewers will expect from Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, who will "willingly face the rain and wind to protect her loved ones."
"She sticks to the principles but is not narrow. She's more awake than anyone in that era" she said, adding that the Joseon queen is not just " intuitive but also prudent, daring, fast and even witty."
'The Queen's Umbrella' Cast: Kim Hye Soo, Kim Hae Sook, More
Kim Hye Soo plays the wife of Joseon's King Lee Ho, played by Choi Won Young.
Joining as one of the lead stars is veteran actress Kim Hae Sook as Queen Dowager which means a status held by the widow of the emperor and also Im Hwa Ryung's mother-in-law.

In the historical drama, the Queen Dowager might bring hurdles to Im Hwa Ryung and her sons as she won't show any love for her grandchildren.
As for the queen's sons, Moon Sang Min, SF9's Chani, Yoo Seon Ho Yoon Sang Hyun, and Kim Min Ki will be the troublesome princes of Joseon.
Completing the list of cast members are Kim Eui Sung, Ok Ja Yeon, and Kim Ga Eun.

Directed by Kim Hyung Shik of "Ghost," "Secret Door" and "Twenty Again," Kim Hye Soo's new drama "The Queen's Umbrella" is slated to premiere in October.
