IN THE LOOP: ‘Curtain Call,’ Shadow Detective,’ More K-dramas Airing This Week

While some shows like "The Law Cafe" are wrapping up the season with their finale episode airing this week, a slew of interesting K-dramas are about to premiere before October 2022 ends. 

From actors returning to the small screen to different kinds of genres, viewers will get to see a wide array of K-dramas debuting from October 23 to October 29. 

With that said, here are three new K-dramas premiering this October 2022, as well as the current series that is worth the hype. 

'Curtain Call'

Helmed by "Bride of the Century," "River Where the Moon Rises" and "Jinxed At First" director Yoon Sang Ho, "Curtain Call" stars Kang Ha Neul, Ha Ji Won and veteran stars Go Doo Shim and Sung Dong Il as lead stars. 

The upcoming drama series follows the story of an elderly woman named Ja Geum Soon, played by Go Doo Shim, who escaped from North Korea, and doesn't have much time left to live because of old age and her condition. 

Despite living a wealthy life and owning a chain of hotels, she still wants to fulfill her last wish. 

Interestingly, a stage actor named Yoo Jae Heon, portrayed by Kang Ha Neul is set to grant Ja Geum Soon's wish. 

"Curtain Call" is a 16-episode K-drama set to premiere on October 31 via KBS and Viki for subtitles. 

'Shadow Detective'

Veteran actor Lee Sung Min takes on a challenging role after taking on the character of accomplished police officer Kim TaeK Rok in "Shadow Detective."

With plans on retiring from his career, he gets caught up in psychological warfare with a mysterious man. With this, he was accused of murder and blackmail as he tries to re-open the investigation. 

Joining Lee Sung Min as a lead star are Jin Goo, Kyung Soo Jin, and Lee Hak Joo.

With 8 episodes in for the whole season, "Shadow detective" airs on October 26 via Disney+.

'Ransom'

Initially released at the 27th Busan International Film Festival, viewers will get to watch "Ransom" on the small screen as the thriller mystery drama is set to air on October 28 via TVING. 

The upcoming K-drama stars Jin Seon Kyu, Chang Ryul, and "Money Heist Korea" star Jeon Jong Seo. 

Based on the 2015 short film of the same name, "Ransom" follows the story of a natural disaster that hit a building where ransom bargaining was taking place. 

Due to the massive earthquake the activity, which includes a man with his organs being auctioned. 

The story depicts how people try to survive in a world disconnected from chaos. 

"Ransom" is scheduled to premiere on October 28 through TVING. 

'Under the Queen's Umbrella'

Officially aired on October 15, the historical K-drama follows the story of a Queen who will do everything to protect her sons and the throne. 

"Under the Queen's Umbrella" cast includes Kim Hye Soo as Queen Im Hwa Ryung, Kim Hae Sook as Queen Dowager Cho, and Choi Won Young as the great King Lee Ho. 

"Under the Queen's Umbrella" episode 5 will air on October 29, via tvN and Netflix.
