'Under the Queen's Umbrella' Episode 8 Recap

In "Under the Queen's Umbrella" episode 8, the King sets out a difficult task for the princes to see who among his sons is worthy to become the Crown Prince.

While some of them played dirty, Grand Prince Seongnam recalled how the Crown prince used to teach him skills that a royal needed to master.

Interestingly, this is also the reason why he is confident that he could replace his brother to the throne, and with that, he promised his mother, Queen Im Hwa Ryung to do his best and be the next heir in order to protect her, his brothers and the late crown Prince's family.

However, it's not just the princes who scheme to get ahead of the competition but also the concubines.

Queen Im Hwa Ryung gathered all the concubines to do a task that would make them spend time at her quarters; however, Consort Ko was missing in the first half of the activities which sparks speculations that she is planning something in line with the ongoing competition.

One of the main highlights in "Under the Queen's Umbrella" episode 8 is the attempted killing of Grand Prince Seongnam.

As the grand prince takes the lead, a group of bandits tried to kill him using a spear but thankfully he managed to get away from it thanks to the Queen's men who are looking after her sons.

After killing the bandit leader, the Queen's men think that it was not just an ordinary robbery but a planned attack against the grand prince.

The news arrived at his Majesties, making them furious. King Lee Ho summoned State Chief Counselor Hwang and confronted him if he knew anything about this; however, the counselor brought up the late Crown Prince Taein's death hinting that the current King has something to do about it.

On the other hand, Queen Im Hwa Ryung showed her wrath and warned the concubines that she will get to the bottom of it and so she does.

He asked her men to track down the group sub-leader and bring it to her before State Chief Counselor Hwang finds him.

Fortunately, her men were able to locate the sub-leader and forced him to speak up. The man revealed that a woman, who has a frog jade on her headdress and smelled like peonies, gave their leader the sketch of the grand prince's face.

The said woman who spoke to the bandits is Queen Dowager's Court Lady Nam.

Following the revelation, Queen Im Hwa Ryung barged into Queen Dowager Cho's quarters and threatened her with another attempt to kill one of her sons.
