"Under the Queen's Umbrella" screenwriter Park Ba Ra spoke about how she came up with the historical K-drama and responds to the issue surrounding the series.

Starring Kim Hye Soo, Kim Hae Sook, Moon Sang Min, and more, the tvN series is among the most-watched K-dramas of 2022.

Amid the hype and the positive responses, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" has been criticized for historical inaccuracies, especially after airing its second episode.

It came after some viewers noticed that it showed traditional Chinese characters but the drama featured Simplified Chinese characters, causing confusion among the audience.

Apart from it, a scene featuring the King's chamber has a placard that reads TaeHwaJun in Chinese.

However, the viewers pointed out that it is a King's court inside the Forbidden City in China.

After successfully wrapping up the drama's season 1, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" the screenwriter responded to the controversy and explained the reason behind it.

In a report, screenwriter Park Ba Ra shared that before coming up with the story, she looked at numerous papers, and books about the Joseon era.

"Various unique traditions such as Sacho, Uichang, Baedong, Sigangwon, Jonghak, and Gyeyeongbae were introduced through "Under the Queen's Umbrella."

As for the accusation regarding the historical distortion, the screenwriter mentioned that " several settings were excluded and modified" to minimize the "inconvenience of viewing."

The screenwriter also acknowledge the error showing the subtitle 'Mulgwiwonju' and pointed out that it was "corrected immediately after the broadcast."

Due to this, Park Ba Ra apologized for causing inconvenience to viewers.

"Criticism, standards, and the resulting improvement are also an extension of interest, and we plan to think more fiercely with a grateful heart," she added.

On the other hand, the "Under the Queen's Umbrella" writer also asked viewers to "refrain from malicious slander that leads not only to me but also to my family and the spread of unfounded false information."

Fortunately, despite the setbacks, Kim Hye Soo's drama concluded with a success after setting a new personal best on its finale.

'Under the Queen's Umbrella' Ends With Highest Rating + Enters Netflix's Top 10 TV Shows

According to Nielsen Korea, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" ended the season with an ​​average nationwide rating of 16.9 percent, the highest viewership through the show.

In addition, the tvN series also entered Netflix's top 10 tv shows globally ranking in ninth place as of December 8 as cited by Flix Patrol.

Interestingly, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" is the only K-drama on the daily rankings, showing its dominance despite ending the season last December 4.
