‘Anna’ Director Thanks Legal Representative After Winning a Grand Bell Award – Here’s Why

"Anna" is among the winners of the 58th Grand Bell Award and with that Director and screenwriter Lee Joo Young made a remarkable acceptance and took a swipe at the issue surrounding the drama. 

Hosted by Kim Tae Hoon and Kang Na Yeon, the annual ceremony was held at the Konkuk University New Millennium Hall on December 8, where top stars united honoring spectacular films released from October 1, 2021, to September 31, 2022.

Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's "The Roundup" or "The Outlaws 2, along with "Decision to Leave" bagged multiple awards at the ceremony including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor for Park Hae Il. 

'Anna' Director Mentioned Her legal Representative during Her Acceptance Speech

As for the controversial series, "Anna," Director and screenwriter Lee Joo Young delivered an iconic speech by not only thanking the staff and crew behind it but also mentioning the drama's past issues. 

Upon gracing the stage to accept the Series Film Director Award the female director said that the director's cut of "Anna" was filmed in just seven months. 

"With the skills and the will of the staff and the actors, we decided to perform the difficult schedule," she said, adding "Due to an incident, I couldn't do any interviews and talk about my actors and staff."

She then thanked lead stars Bae Suzy, Jung Eun Chae, and Kim Jun Han for showing viewers their "three-dimensional acting, which is even better than the scenario."

In addition, Director Lee Joo Young expressed her gratitude to all the "staff for finishing the race with all their might" along with the staff and CEO of the production company.

Lastly, "Anna" director also thanked her legal representative for helping her " let the world know about the existence of 'Anna' director's cut."

Before leaving the stage, Lee Joo Young expressed her hope that there would be "no more director's cut had to be released to show the true value of the original version to the world."

Highlights on 'Anna' Controversy

It can be recalled that despite the success of "Anna" the director experienced a rift with the broadcasting network Coupang Play re-editing the series without the filmmaker's consent. 

At the time, the female director accused the platform of altering her work without seeking her advice. 

With this, she demanded an apology from Coupang Play. 

On the other hand, the network denied it, pointing out that their actions were within the contractual rights. 

Released in June 2022, "Anna" was Bae Suzy's K-drama comeback where she took the dual role of Lee Yoo Mi and Lee Anna. 

Joining her as lead stars are Jung Eun Chae who plays the antagonist Lee Hyun Joo and Kim Joon Han as Bae Suzy's on-screen husband, Choi Ji Hoon. 

It follows the story of a woman who is suffering from Ripley's syndrome and was caught up in her own lies.
