Kang Dong Won will be a free agent after parting ways with the longtime agency, YG Entertainment.

The "Broker" star officially signed under the talent label back in January 2016 and after 7 years, he is leaving the management.

The news was confirmed by YG Entertainment by announcing the actor's decision not to renew his contract.

In an official statement released by the label, YG Entertainment said that "Kang Dong Won has decided to end" his activities with the agency.

As obtained by a media outletthe management expressed their sincere thanks to the actor, who has been with them for a long time.

"We would also like to thank all of the fans who gave their love to Kang Dong Won, and we ask that you continue to give him your unchanging interest and support," the statements reads as cited by YG Entertainment.

Following his decision to part ways, Kang Dong Won will focus on his future project as a free agent.

To recall, after he officially signed under YG Entertainment in 2016, the actor renewed his contract twice, in 2020 and 2021.

Following the success of his big-screen comeback, "Broker," Kang Dong Won is set to continue headlining films.

For his upcoming project, he will star in the thriller crime film "The Incident." He will join Lee Mi Sook, "Remarriage and Desires" actor Lee Hyun Wook and Tan Jung Sang of "Move to Heaven" as lead stars.

"The Incident," set to premiere in 2023, is a remake of the 2009 Hong Kong film which follows the story of a hired killer who nearly gets murdered after his mission goes wrong.

After surviving an attempted assassination, he is back to hunt down the person behind the incident.

Besides the upcoming movie and his decision to leave YG Entertainment, Kang Dong Won is also under a U.S. agency after signing an exclusive contract in March 2022.

At the time, his then-label announced that he is also with the American agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency)": and will be the one handling his activities in Hollywood.

CAA is among the top tier agencies in the U.S. that house famous stars like Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, and award-winning director Steven Spielberg.
