Netflix continues to tease fans regarding the "Squid Game 2" update, starting with the script reading and filming schedule.

Created by Hwang Dong Hyuk, the 9-episode K-drama depicts the story of 456 debt-ridden participants, who joined a grueling survival competition in hopes of winning a 45.6 billion KRW cash prize. However, to take home the whopping jackpot, the contestants need to survive the death-defying games based on traditional Korean children's games.

During the game, an unexpected twist surprised everyone, especially Seong Gi Hoon, played by Lee Jung Jae.

Joining him in season 1 are Jung Ho Yeon, Park Hae Soo, Wi Ha Joon, and more.

Interestingly, with the public's demand to have the series' second sequel, Netflix and director Hwang Dong Hyuk officially announced the return of "Squid Games."

'Squid Game 2' Update: Netflix Announces Schedule

According to a media outlet, Netflix is set to roll out the beginning of the production starting this June.

As mentioned by a source from the entertainment industry, the streaming giant has plotted the schedule of "Squid Game 2" script reading in the third week of June, followed by the start of production.

"Netflix's original series 'Squid Game 2' has scheduled a full script reading next week, June 23," said the industry representative, adding that the show will have its first filming in early July.

Meanwhile, for the "Squid Game 2" cast, Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun are definitely participating in the upcoming sequel, but the streaming giant is tight-lipped about whether the lineup will include returning cast members and new cast members.

It can be recalled that director Hwang Dong Hyuk previously gave hints about the details regarding the cast.

He said that Lee Byung Hun and Lee Jung Jae would both reprise their roles. Meanwhile, the mysterious agent, played by Gong Yoo, might possibly appear in the upcoming series.

Interestingly, a recent update delighted fans after Im Siwan was reportedly named the new lead star of "Squid Game 2."

The news quickly spread like wildfire on social media, delighting fans with the interesting update.

However, his agency, PLUM A&C, clarified the news and said that they couldn't confirm the infirmation yet.

The same goes for Netflix, which asked for the public's understanding regarding the casting of "Squid Game 2."

What to Expect in 'Squid Game 2'

Besides the returning cast, officials also gave hints on what to expect in the upcoming series.

During the confirmation of the show's sequel, Netflix also announced that there would be changes regarding the mysterious, creepy doll. From Young Hee, who appeared in the red light, green light challenge, and her boyfriend, Chul Soo, will be joining season 2.

 As for the production cost, "Squid Game 2" reportedly has a budget of 100 billion won, or around $78 million, for the upcoming sequel and aims to release it in 2024.
