Besides hit K-dramas, Korean movies are also making waves in the box office, featuring different genres and, not to mention, having a star-studded cast.

Although Hollywood offers several interesting films like "Barbie," "Oppenheimer," "Mission Impossible," and more, Koreans somehow still prefer domestic movies.

With that said, here's the lineup of Korean movies that dominated the box office this 2023.

'The Roundup: No Way Out'

Starting the year with a bang, Ma Dong Seok's crime action film "The Roundup: No Way Out," also known as "The Outlaws 3," surpassed the 10 million mark in the box office.

In addition, "The Outlaws" 1 to 3 set a new record as the first Korean serial movie in history to surpass 30 million moviegoers since it made its debut.

The third installment of the 2017 movie depicts the story of ace detective Ma Seok Do, played by Ma Dong Seok, who got transferred to a new department, the metropolitan investigation team.

As part of his new task, he goes after two new villains, Joo Sung Chul (Lee Joon Hyuk) and Ricky (Aoki Munetaka), who spearhead a drug syndicate.

Viewers were drawn to the chemistry of the actors, especially the new villains.

'Smugglers'

Following the success of Ma Dong Seok's movie, "Smugglers" has been gaining huge popularity thanks to its amazing cast lineup and intriguing story.

According to a report, the action-crime film has officially surpassed the 3 million mark of moviegoers at the Korean box office 11 days since debut.

"Smugglers" boasts a star-studded cast, featuring Jo In Sung, Kim Hye Soo, Yum Jung Ah, Go Min Si, and more, as it focuses on female deep-see drivers who got involved in high-stakes smuggling.

'Concrete Utopia'

Like "Smugglers," the new movie "Concrete Utopia" joins the blockbuster race with the post-apocalyptic film "Concrete Utopia."

Starring Lee Byung Hun, Park Seo Joon, and Park Bo Young, the star-studded movie scored its first 1 million moviegoers in less than a week after the premiere.

The story focuses on the survivors after a massive earthquake hit Seoul.

'The Moon'

Joining the list is the sci-fi movie "The Moon," starring EXO's D.O., Kim Hee Ae, and Sol Kyung Gu.

Although it hasn't broken the million mark yet, netizens have been talking about Doh Kyungsoo's impressive acting as he transforms into an astronaut lost in space.

'The Childe'

Gaining the public's attention in 2023 is the controversial movie "The Childe," starring Kim Seon Ho, Go Ah Ra, Kang Tae Joo, and Kim Kang Woo.

The movie depicts the story of a Filipino-Korean boy who flew to South Korea to find his father. However, he finds himself associated with a mysterious man called the "nobleman," played by Kim Seon Ho.

Released on June 21, "The Childe" also premiered in other countries like the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and more.
