MMA Junkie reports that the injuries that stopped Carlos Condit in his co-main event bout with Tyron Woodley Saturday night were a torn meniscus and, possibly, a torn ACL. The outlet communicated with Condit's coach Mike Winkeljohn via text message and he said that Condit will have MRI scans taken of his knee soon to find out for sure the full extent of his injuries.
Woodley hurt Condit with punches in the first and second rounds well before the former WEC and UFC title holder injured his knee. The American Top Team fighter didn't regret the way the fight ended at all.
"I saw that he was hurt and I went for the finish," Woodley said of capitalizing on Condit's injury, in the post fight press conference.
Here are some gifs that shows the fight ending kick by Tyron Woodley and showing how Condit's legs reacted to the kick in slo-mo.
As of this moment, Tyron Woodley is now the number 1 contender for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
In a recent interview with mmafightcorner, Woodley said that he was promised a Welterweight title shot with a victory over Condit:
"Yes it's been confirmed that this is a number one contendership bout. The media, they want to put a spin on it. They want to say if Carlos wins, he gets a fight. To me, it's pretty clear cut from Dana that a number one contendership bout means that the victor of this fight is the number one contender...I think that's why we're matched up as the co-main event. You got a showcase of who the next #1 contender is right on the same night that you found out who the next champion is. It's been 100 percent confirmed to me."
