In LGBT new today, Ellen Page, one of the actress of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," opened up about coming out to the world.
Before publicly announcing her sexual orientation, Page told her parents she was a lesbian when she was 19.
After coming out to her parents, Page still felt like she was keeping a secret.
"I think I still felt scared about people knowing," she confessed. "I felt awkward around gay people; I felt guilty for not being myself."
It wasn't until this past Valentine's Day at a Las Vegas Human Rights Campaign event that Page publicly joined the LGBT community.
"I was very nervous. I was very nervous, yes. Yes. Very, very nervous. Yes. I was emotional, deeply, deeply emotional," she said, recalling the HRC event when speaking to Flare magazine.
When Page became more of a household name, she was advised to keep quite about her status. That was an act she couldn't continue.
"You hear things like, 'People shouldn’t know about your life because you’re creating an illusion on-screen.' But I don’t see other actresses going to great lengths to hide their heterosexuality. That’s an unfair double standard," she said.
