Lebron James' 49 points explosion ended up disappointing the Miami Heat star even as he showed the NBA playoffs opponent Brooklyn Nets and the rest of the league why he's still the game's best player.

His disappointment came when he had a chance to eclipse his NBA playoffs record of 49 points as he stepped to the line for two free throws. By then, he has already scored 48 points. He makes the first one easily for 49 points. Then, he clanked the second one.

"That's the first time I've been disappointed in myself in a win," King James later told reporters in the post-game presser, per Bleacher Report.

"You know, it definitely won't take away from the fact this was a huge win for us. But it's a free throw, and I hate missing free throws."

Lebron James' 49-point explosion came on the heels of the report that Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce asked coach Jason Kidd to allow him to guard King James in their NBA playoffs match.

"I think I've guarded him more than anybody in this gym. I know his tendencies a little bit more and I just try to step up in that role and try to lead that way," he said.

Lebron James' 49 points also send a strong message to the Brooklyn Nets and the rest of the league that he's still the game's best even if the MVP trophy went to his friend and rival, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma Thunder, wrote Mitch Lawrence for the NY Daily News.

"He played as if he had memorized Pierce's comments, verbatim, tying his career playoff high with 49 points in Miami's 102-96 win," he wrote, adding that the rest of the contending teams in the NBA playoffs should sit up and take notice.

King James, he said, is "back to being the MVP."
