LA Lakers news seems to be buzzing about the possibility of Pau Gasol's return as the team believes that he is the key to luring Carmelo Anthony to Los Angeles. However, the New York Knicks have other agenda as it intends to pursue the seven-foot Spaniard via free agency.

In the latest LA Lakers news reported by ESPN's Dave McMenamin, the team intends to pursue Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony, who both declared their free agency status, and although the Miami Heat superstar is a long-shot, there's still a chance to get the Knicks forward.

"In fact, should it appear that James and Anthony are not pursuing a mutual destination as a package deal -- especially with Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem and Chris Bosh opting out of their deals with the Miami Heat -- the Lakers believe that having Gasol back on the team could be vital in their solo pursuit of Anthony," he wrote.

Pau Gasol's season under Mike D'Antoni was marred with a lot of frustration and disappointed as he could not be totally comfortable with the small-ball offense preferred by the "Seven Seconds or Less" coach.

The Lakers Nation blog tackled a few LA Lakers news concerning not just the all-star center but also Kobe Bryant not wanting to play for him and the circumstances surrounding the Mike D'Antoni resignation.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that Phil Jackson of the New York Knicks wants Pau Gasol for the team to form a lethal combo along with Carmelo Anthony.

However, Lakers Nation noted that the Knicks are over the cap and with only $4 million to offer Gasol, that pairing would likely be more feasible in a LA Lakers uniform. The Spaniard, however, said that he will listen to Phil Jackson's offer and decide after talking with other teams, the Lakers included.
