Simona Halep advanced to semifinals at the Wimbledon 2014 after defeating Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Halep will face 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard in the semis after the Canadian tennis player surpassed German Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-4.
The semifinals seems the game of the two people who were defeated by four-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova at the French Open 2014, stealing the Grand Slam title from Bouchard and preventing Halep in advancing to the semis last month. The 22-year-old Halep had reached the finals at the French Open 2014 but defeated by Sharapova. In the same tournament, Bouchard was upset by Sharapova as well in the semis.
Halep threw her serve in the second game with Lisicki. It was a slow start for her, but her effort brought her back in the game.
"It wasn't as easy as it looked," Halep told BBC Sport.
"I had a slow start but then I came back well. I played my best and I enjoyed every moment being on Centre Court, so I am happy I could win in two sets and prepare for the next match," she continued.
The 4th seed player felt confident during the game, saying, "I have more confidence and the secret is to enjoy and fight for every point. I like how I hit and move and I enjoy every moment. I don't feel the pressure. I just want to enjoy it and give my best."
In the other quarterfinal match, 13th seed Bouchard made her third Grand Slam semi-final appearance of the year after 19th seed Angelique Kerber was not able to prevent her advancing.
Kerber saved four break points in the seventh game; however, Bouchard decided to raise her game to save each one and to force openings. Canadian Bouchard took her chance to go 5-3 ahead and snatched the victory over Kerber.
