The quarter finals match between Colombia and Brazil ended in a rather unexpected note. Although Brazil won over the match in a 2-1 finish but they lost two important players during the said game. Team Brazil lost their central defender Thiago Silva. Thiago received his second yellow card which means that he won't be able to play in their next game which is their semi finals match. But what catches the media's attention during the game was the injury that Brazilian star player Neymar received during the last few minutes of the match.
It can be remembered that Neymar challenged Colombia's Camilo Zuniga during the 88th minute. He was aiming to catch the ball facing it when Zuniga came in running at the back and hitting his right knee on his vertebrae. The Brazilian super star, ploughed to the ground and was seen writhing in pain. He was then stretchered off from the field and into the locker room where he was checked.
Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar announced that the 22 year old FC Barcelona player had a fractured vertebra.
"Unfortunately, he's not going to be able to play. It's not serious in the sense that it doesn't need surgery, but he'll need to immobilise it to recover."
A lot of people took to social media their resentment over the situation. And the person that they have been blaming all along is the 28 year old Colombian defender Camilo Zuniga. Fans took to twitter and started harassing Zuniga's family. A lot has been calling Zuniga a bad loser who injured Neymar on purpose just because they were about to loss.
Zuniga explained that "the situation was normal in a game; there was no ill intent, malice or negligence." He also said that "deeply regret[ted] the unfortunate injury Neymar suffered during the game."
He sent out a special message to all Brazilians fans stating "To all the Brazilian fans, who now see one of their players--an exemplary human being--out of the World Cup, I send you a special message and all the support from the Colombian national team in your upcoming matches."
Neymar on the other hand seemed to be in cheerful when he left a video message to all his fans thanking them for their prayers and wishing him for his full recovery.
