After all the commotion have subsided and the results have sink in came in the awarding ceremony. It was a frustrating game for the Argentineans as they lose the coveted trophy to a tough competitor in Germany, They struggled and work on their defense but at the very last minute, a single ball slip in unnoticed and came in the goal for the Germans. It was not something that the Argentineans expected and neither was it something that Messi dreamt about. As the goal came in at the 113th minute, Germany jubilated with the first and only goal of the match. But the Germans did not falter in their defense. Even if they knew that there were only a couple of minutes left before the game will be over, they still made sure that Argentina would not be able to score.
This is what frustrates Messi. After losing over the golden Trophy to German, in the end, he still won the Golden Ball which is given to the World Cup's greatest performer. Messi did not come to the World Cup to receive the Golden Ball rather he wanted for him and his team to raise the Golden Trophy on their hands.
Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella said with regards to Messi winning the prize "I think he deserves it because he played an extraordinary World Cup. He was a fundamental factor in the team so that we could make it all the way where we are today. ... He deserved it, quite sincerely, yes."
But Messi seemed like he does not want anything to do with it. He looked dazed and out of it standing beside the German goalkeeper who also won his individual award. According to Messi "A shame we can't offer the fans the [World Cup] trophy. We leave with our head up high, we have peace of mind. I'm proud to be Argentine."
Messi performed during the game but it was not the best performance he could give. He was restricted and was pressured by a much stronger team. He did his best but unfortunately for the team, it was not good enough for them to win the golden trophy.
