With the Android Wear released almost a year ago, LG is now bumping its second smartwatch to run on Google’s wearable software. However, instead of the trendy square shape, the new device is reported to be having a round face. Pretty much similar to Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch that is due to arrive on store shelves this September.

The new LG watch seems to be going head-to-head with the Moto 360, as it has a perfectly round face that should focus on the fact that it doesn’t need a small window at the bottom in order to make one hard, flat edge, like that of  Motorola’s wearable.

The design also seems to feature a more traditional case with outer lugs, compared to Motorola’s design, which could make the smartwatch look more attractive for those who are seeking for something that’s more resembled to an average, innocuous Casio or Timex.

LG has already released a teaser video of the round smartwatch that will be unveiled at the IFA 2014 next week. The teaser shows a logo with the letter R, which suggests the go-to-market name will be the ‘LG G Watch R.’

Additionally, several watchfaces are shown, with a compass and a step counter. The terms “round the bends,” feel the gap” (perhaps haptic feedback), and a “perfect circle” are displayed.

The original G Watch was released about two months ago, and a fresh design so quickly would mean that both these watches should be developed around the same time. One source pointed out that the first-generation G Watch could have been a proof-of-concept to help feel out this new area of wearable devices as well as to lead the market with an Android Wear device.

Price, specs, materials, quality are all completely rumors and hearsay at this point, but the argument that LG's next smartwatch is round just became very convincing. We'll find out more within a couple weeks.
