Just what is in store for fans of the Emmy-winning British show starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman? Producers and creators Scott Moffat reveal some promising 'Sherlock' season 4 spoilers.

"We have a plan to top season 3, and our plan is so devastating that our cast was reduced to tears," Moffat tells Deadline after the show's rousing win at the Emmy Awards last Monday. "Mark (Gatiss) and I are excited about what we have coming up."

Season three's premiere attracted 9.2 million viewers in the United Kingdom. The show's US franchise also earned an average of 4 million viewers, compared to season two's 3.2 million.

The highly-rated show promptly replaced 'Downton Abbey' as the 'it' show from Britain, nabbing three Emmys, despite getting no wins for the past two seasons. 'Downton Abbey' only earned one win this year for hairstyling.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the quick-witted detective Sherlock Holmes, in the series won over 'Fargo' stars Billy Bob Thornton and 'Sherlock' co-star Martin Freeman for best actor.

"I was shocked and surprised," Moffat said backstage. "I was delighted we won four awards at the Creatives, but 'The Normal Heart' is brilliant. I feel guilty about every award we took from them."

Guilty or not, the showrunner has no plans of slowing 'Sherlock' down for season four. In fact, he and co-creator Mark Gatiss are currently gearing up for the "devastating" new plan.

The 'Sherlock' season 4 spoilers just keep coming.

According to the showrunner, the new season will be so good that he and Gatiss have become "a couple of fanboys" for it.

Although scheduling the show's world-class stars for filming is "like corralling everyone in a cocktail party" and "quite tricky," Moffat aims to start shooting for the Christmas special in January 2015. The three other episodes will be shot later on in the year.

As to how long the award-winning show will air, Moffat promises to "keep making 'Sherlock' as long as it's a good show.'
