The undead of ancient Egypt that left their marks in the movie-going public's consciousness is set to make their comeback in "The Mummy" movie reboot under the direction of Len Wiseman of "Total Recall" fame.

According to Screenrant, "The Mummy" movie is one of the two supernatural horror film remakes the writer-producer tandem of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are advocating. Len Wiseman will be at the director's helm, lending his expertise to the story, which was a big hit back in 1999 with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz leading the cast.

Slash Film revealed that Wiseman planned to make an epic "The Mummy" movie remake whose modern-day setting contrasts that of the original. The 90's version whose setting was in the 1920's became a blockbuster that generated several sequels and spin-offs, all of which were hits themselves.

Recent developments with the film, as reported by Deadline, revealed Len Wiseman pairing with Jon Spaihts who will be penning the script. The producers will be Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

In their interview with Kurtzman and Wiseman, they reported that John Spaihts has recreated the tale of the ancient monster, giving it a different twist. First, he transported it to modern-day time. Then, Wiseman divulged that they would be making the dark-fantasy adventure even darker and more ominous.

Kurtzman said that this time around, they are digging deeper into history of the mummy. They are highlighting its original horrific nature followed by the action part, making it more realistic in emotional context.

Wiseman added that of the many aspects that make a mummy interesting, what caught his attention was the creature's human nature. He noted that despite being turned into a monster, his personality and mental skills stay intact. Regardless of his frightening gauze-wrapped form, he remains a person character throughout.

As Wiseman put it in his comment on Deadline: "Even if he is a staggering creature, it becomes more important that he's a thinking and calculating person."

As to how those thinking-calculating traits would breathe frightening life back to the mummy, viewers will find out when the producers and creators release a launching date for "The Mummy" movie reboot.
