Super Junior Sungmin Confirms He Is Marrying ‘Boarding House #24’ Star Kim Sa Eun
Super Junior’s Sungmin (Lee Sungmin) is engaged to actress Kim Sa Eun, who is currently starring in the K-Drama “Boarding House #24.” Rumors surrounding the upcoming nuptials began to spread throughout Korea on October 14, with Sungmin providing a heartfelt statement confirming his impending marriage later in the day.
Sungmin provided a statement via the official website for Super Junior in a post titled “To Those Who Have Allowed Me To Become Who I Am.” He opened the post with a sincere apology to Super Junior fans stating, “With a heavy and sincere heart, I deliver this letter. Everyone, I met a good person, and on December 13 we will be married.”
Sungmin went on to explain that he would be continuing activities with Super Junior.
On September 24, SM Entertainment confirmed that Sungmin and Kim Sa Eun were dating. The couple met while performing in the popular 2013 Korean musical “The Three Musketeers.”
Ka Sa Eun was initially responsible for providing information that she was dating Sungmin, during an interview for TV Report. However, her representative initially declined on October 14 to confirm that she and Sungmin were getting married. Representatives for her agency also vehemently denied the possibility that this was a shotgun wedding.”
While SM Entertainment and many fans are congratulating the couple, there has been a mixed response from Super Junior fans (ELFs) in Korea. The nature of relationship and the immediacy of the engagement are primary concerns cited by fans.
The situation is interesting when compared to Kim Sa Eun’s role on “Boarding House #24.” In “Boarding House #24,” Kim Sa Eun portrays Kim Sa Eun, a young woman who is obsessed with landing a wealthy husband. The focus of a recent episode of “Boarding House #24” was the foiled pursuit by Kim Sa Eun of Kim Dong Joon (ZE:A’s Dongjun). The episode concludes with Kim Sa Eun facing the harsh reality that she is attracted to Dong Joon but he is not a wealthy heir like she presumed. This plot device runs very close in time to the relationship announcement of Sungmin and Kim Sa Eun, followed by news of their engagement.
